November 2010 - A truly new approach of MT: a one-legged yoke!
In the October 2010 issue of the NDT Technician published by the ASNT (American Society of Nondestructive Testing), we have found a very interesting paper (1) that you may read.
It explains an MT technique using only one of the two legs of an AC hand-held electromagnet and which then produces a radial magnetic field.
As you will understand, this technique is especially valuable when it is not possible to apply both legs of the AC hand-held electromagnet on the area to be inspected, due to the part’s shape.
The author demonstrates that this technique is reliable, and, as examples, shows inspection of edges of plates and of pipes.
Take some few minutes to see how MT, when understood, still leads to new applications.
